NESsT works to develop sustainable social enterprises that solve critical social problems in Emerging Market economies. They do this by providing a combination of funding, training and mentoring, and access to markets and networks, to enable the planning, start up, or expansion of social enterprises which create jobs for and/or provide services to disadvantaged groups.
The Ashmore Foundation has been supporting NESsT's Brazil operations since set up in 2008. 6 social enterprises are currently in the Brazil portfolio, in receipt of funding and support, with Ashmore Brazil employees regularly involved in mentoring. Since NESsT started its Brazil programme, there has been a 109% increase in the numbers of beneficiaries reached by social enterprises, 218 jobs have been created and there has been a 542% increase in social enterprise revenue.
